The recent floods in Nepal, which have devastated hundreds of homes, are ultimately attributable to none other than its neighbor, China. China’s strategy involves extending its influence right up to the Indian border, for which Nepal offers the easiest route. Seizing an opportunity where there was a lack of oversight, China exploited the access points along the Tibet border to execute its agenda; under the guise of development and by leveraging its rapid infrastructure capabilities, it won the trust of the Nepalese people—only to betray them, a pattern consistent with its past behavior toward others. The people of Nepal are straightforward and often unaware of such cunning tactics; therefore, India stands firmly with Nepal, and Nepalis must guard against China’s machinations while focusing on strengthening themselves.
